In school, we have been working on creating a common language for the students to be able to have conversations with their classmates and to have deeper, more complex conversations. We are calling this "Accountable Talk". During Eagle Time and class, we have practiced and discussed specific components that should take place when we are communicating with classmates, teachers, and even our parents! Some of the components include:
1. Eye Contact
2. Body Language
3. Sentence Stems (to help us practice) (see below)
4. Adding to the conversation and staying on topic
5. Using someone's name
If you have a chance, ask your son/daughter about Accountable Talk. Encourage them to use the sentence stems to make them more common in their language as well as using names!
Example stems to try:
I agree with you because . . .
I disagree with you because . . .
Why do you think that?
I do not understand can you help?
That reminds me of . . .
So you're saying . . .
Can you repeat what you just said . . .
