Chapter One
Jade was a normal girl, good grades, nice family, kind, and very helpful, but she was the Queen of Halloween. She was fearless and brave, well that’s what it may seem. This is a story about a daredevil turned scaredy cat.

I was on my way home, slowly walking on the fallen leaves that crunched under my feet. My favorite holiday was a week away. Halloween. This year I won’t be trick-or-treating, though. I would be handing out candy. That doesn’t matter though. I can still scare some people.
I made my way to my porch, hoping that someone hadn’t put Valentine in the basement, again. Val was a very sassy kitten. If she was put in the basement, she would hate all of us for a week. She can get very evil when she must.
I unlocked the door, stepping in the cold air of home. My parents were on a vaca to….someplace tropical. I’m usually left here every Halloween because my parents don’t enjoy my jump scares.
I close the door when something jumps on my shoulder. This didn’t scare me because I knew that it was Val, the only family that keeps me company. She has a habit of sitting on my shoulder but no one else’s for some odd reason.
I did my homework, fed Val, then took her for a walk (She’s more like a dog then a cat). I started to wander around town since I had nothing to do. I looked at an abandon house.
I stopped in my tracks when I saw a boy in the window . I thought nothing of it and walked back home.
The next day Ii went to school like normal, but in homeroom, there was something strange. A boy had moved here, to our small little town. He had grey-blue eyes, pale skin, and a head full of crazy raven black hair. He was in a grey hoodie with a pair of faded, ripped jeans. Tall and skinny.
I didn’t get a good look at his face, but I saw just one of his eyes between some of his hair. Then Mrs.Young called on me. “Jade, could you help Mr. Hale around to day?” she asked in a gentle tone. She was a young teacher and was pretty laid back. “Y-yeah, of course.”
I walked to the front of the class. “Would you like me to show him around the school?” I asked with a brave voice. She gave me a smile,”Yes, you can do it now. We’re just reviewing for a test.” I nodded and walked towards the door with this Hale guy following me.
I closed the door once we were both in the hallway. I inhaled the cool air like a cold glass of water. The silence had its own smooth and soothing lullaby. “Hello, you there?” he asked waving his hand in front of my face.
“Y-yeah, sorry,” I replied slightly embarrassed that I had spaced out. He let his arm drop to his side and smiled. “It’s fine,” he held out his hand to me. ”I’m Hayden Hale, nice to meet you.” I looked at his face. I smiled back,”I’m Jade Quinten, nice to meet you.” I shook his hand.
“Cool,’’ he paused,”You like Halloween, right?” He tilted his head. This caught me off guard. “How do you know that?” I meet his gaze of mischief. He chuckled softly,”Your necklace says Halloween Queen, so that a yes?” I laughed nervously, ”Yeah.”
The necklace I got from my father for my birthday when I was 14. I still wear it even though it’s been a couple years since I got it.
“Where should we start?” I asked him. He looked down the hall then back at me. “We could just wander around I guess.” He shrugged.
After our “tour”, we headed back to class. It was almost time for the next class we both had History.

I am going to tell you about my vacation I had for 10 days. First of all, I traveled to Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska.
After school on Friday, we drove 4 hours to a hotel in Colorado. On Saturday we drove 9 hours to Pueblo West. We stayed with some old friends of my parents. We stayed there 1 night. The next morning was Sunday. We went to church. The service was 70 minutes long. Then we left.
We only had to drive for 6 hours. Then we got to Durango and stayed in a hotel. We got up early the next morning to drive to 4 corners. Then we went to Sedona to stay with friends. We got to have a beautiful view.
The next morning, we went to the Grand Canyon. I was very disappointed that we had to walk 2.8 miles. The next day, still in Sedona we went on a jeep tour. It was AWESOME! It was 2 hours long. Sadly We had to leave right after it.
We drive for about 2 hours to get to Phoenix. We stayed in a hotel. The next morning, we went to the Musical Instrument Museum. You got these headphones that plugged into a volume control box. When you got close to a T.V, you would start to hear what was going on. It was great because it was quiet in there.
The next day, we drove to TUCSON, ARIZONA! We only had to drive 2 hours. When we got there, we relaxed and had a great time. The next morning, my dad had to go to the rehearsal for the wedding. Us kids, went swimming 2 times that day. We had Chick-Fil-A for lunch. The next day was exciting! The wedding day! That night we went to the reception and didn’t get cake because we left early so we could get home. I was so tired.
We let that night at about 10:30 to come home. We drove for a while. My dad thought that he had made a wrong turn. Then he say that these two guys were flashing lights at us. We went into the parking lot. They asked some questions. But one of them was who is with you? My dad said my 4 kids. Then he shined a light in our faces to see who was in there. We were just fine.
The next day we got up and drove the rest of the way home. We got home that night at 8:40.
